Sherri B. Thomas, D.O.
Dr. Sherri Thomas has been board certified in Internal Medicine since 2011 and a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine since 2016. In 2017, she joined Surgical Associates PC in order to be a part of providing a comprehensive approach for patients who want to improve their health through weight management.
Dr. Thomas grew up in Idaho and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Idaho State University. She attended medical school at A.T. Still University in Kirksville, Missouri, where she also met her husband, Reggie. She completed her residency training in Internal Medicine in Phoenix, AZ at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center. After practicing Internal Medicine in Phoenix, AZ for 2 years, she and her husband moved to Lincoln, NE where she continued to practice primary care.
While in practice, Dr. Thomas became interested in learning more about medical weight loss as it became clear that so many of patients’ chronic medical illnesses stem from their struggles with weight. In 2015 she began the training necessary to begin practicing Obesity Medicine and became a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine in 2016. Dr. Thomas is an active member of the Obesity Medicine Association, and believes in taking a comprehensive and tailored approach to weight management, utilizing as many appropriate evidence-based options as patients need. Whether a patient is interested in lifestyle changes, meal replacements, medication, referral for surgery or a combination of these, Dr. Thomas is passionate about helping patients achieve their health goals through medical weight management. It is a thrill for her when patients are able to lose weight, become more active in their own lives, and regain confidence. And it is often exciting for her patients to reduce or come off diabetic, hypertension and cholesterol medications they thought they were stuck with for life.
With 2 young sons at home, another on the way, and a gastroenterologist for a husband, Dr. Thomas spends much of her time caring for “her boys”. She also enjoys traveling, exercising, reading, cooking, scrapbooking and getting a good pedicure.
