Dr. Hung Bio

Dr. Hung is a Board-Certified General Surgeon as well as a member of the American Society for Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery (ASMBS). He has been with Surgical Associates, P.C. since 2001. Originally from Oklahoma, he graduated from the BA/MD accelerated program at The University of Missouri Kansas City in 1995. After a surgical internship at the University of Colorado from 1995-1996, he completed his general surgery residency in Kansas City at Truman Medical Center and St. Luke’s Hospital from 1996-2001.

As a general surgeon who specializes in weight loss surgery, Dr. Hung was instrumental in starting the bariatric/surgical weight loss programs in Lincoln. Prior to this, no weight loss procedures had been performed in Lincoln since the mid 1990’s. Since the inception of the program at Surgical Associates, P.C., Dr. Hung has performed over 450 gastric bypasses, 700 Lap Bands, and 150 laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomies. Offering the full complement of procedures allows our patients to choose which operation is best suited for their lifestyle. Currently, he is the Co-Medical Director of the Bryan Bariatric Program and was previously the Medical Director of the bariatric program at St. Elizabeth’s from its inception until March 2015.

In addition to his bariatric expertise, Dr. Hung is experienced in advanced minimally invasive surgery, practicing the latest laparoscopic techniques in hernia repair, gallbladder and colon surgery, as well as anti-reflux (hiatal hernia) surgery. He was the first surgeon in Nebraska to provide single-incision (virtually scar-less surgery with less pain) gallbladder removal in 2008. Utilizing the da Vinci Surgical System, he was also the first surgeon in Lincoln to provide the option of robotic umbilical and incisional hernia repair for quicker recovery and less pain.

In his free time, Dr. Hung spends time with his wife and two children, watching college football as well as being an assistant coach for his son’s YMCA soccer team.
