Michael Schmidt, M.D.

Dr. Schmidt is a board certified Medical Geneticist. He assists the Surgeons and Staff with evaluations and testing for Hereditary Cancer Syndromes. All cancer is genetic, but about 10% of all cancers are due to genes inherited from a parent. Knowing this risk can help a patient and their Physician to choose the best management for their type of cancer as well as preventing similar types of cancer occurring in their family members.

Dr. Schmidt is a native Nebraskan, born and raised in Grand Island. After Medical School at the Nebraska Medical Center he completed his residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Medical Genetics at the Mayo Clinic. He has practiced in Lincoln since 1987.

Private time is spent with his wife, three grown children and trying to keep up with his granddaughters. Dr. Schmidt is semi-retired and enjoys golfing, gardening and Husker sports.
